Africanized Honey Bee

In September 1998, CDFA and counties at the perimeter of the AHB colonized area, conducted a delimiting survey for AHB. As a result of this survey the colonized area has expanded to include all of San Bernardino County and extended the western boundaries in Riverside and San Diego Counties.

The new AHB colonized area is 33,820 square miles and includes all of Imperial and San Bernardino Counties and parts of Riverside and San Diego Counties.

Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego County Departments of Agriculture participated in the survey.

CDFA Insect Biosystematist Tom Eichlin confirmed the determinations based on mtDNA analysis performed by Scott Kinnee.
