Olive Fruit Fly (OLFF) Los Angeles County OLFF larvae were found at three new sites on November 17 and 18, 1998, in the Westwood area. All of the locations are near previous OLFF finds. Westwood/West Los Angeles
CDFA inspectors Maria Ramirez and Antonio Urquieta are credited with finding the larvae. Olive fruit fly does not respond to cuelure or methyl eugenol. CDFA has increase the McPhail trap density, as needed, to 80 traps per square mile in the core square mile and 40 McPhail traps per square mile in the eight adjacent square miles. In addition, CDFA is conducting a larval survey on find properties and their adjacents is continuing. Since October 19, 1998, twenty-six olive fruit flies have
been trapped at five sites in Westwood. Larvae have been found
on five properties. CDFA has scheduled ground treatment with
malathion bait of all olive trees within 200 meters of the finds
to begin on November 16. Soil drench treatments with diazinon
will be made to the larval properties and adjacents.
