Mediterranean Fruit Fly (Medfly) Riverside County Lake Elsinore While inspecting hosts on November 16, 1998, along Machado Street, CDFA inspectors Gilbert Ayala, Erlinda Ramirez and Lupe Segura found Medfly larvae. The site is near a recent trap find and the larvae were found in persimmon. Since October 22, 1998, seventy-four (74) Medflies have been
trapped at 32 separate sites in the Lake Elsinore area. Larvae
have been found on five properties. CDFA initiated ground treatment
with malathion bait to all properties within 200 meters of the
finds and the second application is in progress. The second soil
drench treatment with diazinon to larval properties and adjacents
is continuing. Sterile Medfly releases (SIT) began on The CHAMP/yellow panel, Jackson and McPhail traps are being removed from the SIT release area and are being replaced with Integrated Pheromone McPhail Traps (IPMT). They are being deployed at five traps per square. A quarantine area of 180 square miles has been established.
