Oriental Fruit Fly (OFF)

Los Angeles County

Alhambra

An unmated female OFF was found by CDFA Inspector Phil Vega on October 24, 1998, in a McPhail trap placed in a plum tree at a residence along South 2nd Street. The find is at the same property two male OFF were trapped previously and it is within the Alhambra OFF male annihilation area (PD57-98).

The trap density at the time of the find was 25 Jackson/methyl eugenol and 25 McPhail traps per square mile.

Since the find is within the Alhambra eradication and delimitation trapping area, no additional traps will be placed. CDFA will cut fruit from OFF hosts for larvae near the site.

CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
