Thirty-nine MxFF have been trapped in the amended San Diego Mexican Fruit Fly Eradication area. CDFA has been ground treating with malathion bait spray all hosts within 200 meters of the finds. In addition the sterile MxFF release program for San Diego has been expanded to cover a 1.5 mile radius around the new finds. Releases are scheduled to begin in this area on October 23. Fruit cutting for MxFF larvae is continuing near all finds.

The McPhail trap density in the area was 160 traps per square mile and will be increased as needed to protocol levels.

CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determinations.

San Diego County Department of Agriculture, CDFA, and USDA trappers Victor Armendariz, Connie Chavez, Kahsai Ghebretusen, Jorge Olivares, Carolina Rodriguez and Alan Sharon are credited with finding the Mexican fruit flies.
