Oriental Fruit Fly (OFF)

Orange County

Irvine

CDFA Inspector David Joesph found one male OFF on October 19, 1998, in a Jackson/methyl eugenol trap placed in a fig tree at a residence along Lucero East. The find is near an OFF trapped on October 5th (PD68-98)

The trap density at the time of the find was 25 Jackson/methyl eugenol and 25 McPhail traps per square mile.

In response, the Jackson/methyl eugenol and McPhail trap densities will be increased, as necessary, to 25 traps per square mile in the core square mile around the find. In addition CDFA has scheduled OFF male annihilation treatments to begin on October 21 in an eight-square-mile area around the finds.

CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
