Red Imported Fire Ant

Stanislaus County

Newman

Red imported fire ant was found in a commercial almond grove on October 15, 1998. Pallets of commercial bees were brought into this orchard for pollination during 1997 by the same beekeeper associated with the Kern and Fresno County RIFA infestations.

In response to this recent RIFA find, Stanislaus County and CDFA personnel are conducting a delimiting survey in this almond groveand the surrounding area. Eradication efforts will be initiated with a Proclamation of Eradication Project.

CDFA entomologist Ray Bingham and his crew are credited with finding the RIFA and CDFA Biosystematist Fred Andrews made the determination.
