Mediterranean Fruit Fly (Medfly)

Orange County

Lake Forest

Two male Medflies and one mated, female Medfly were found within the Lake Forest/Mission Viejo treatment boundary on September 15, 1998. The male Medflies were found in a Jackson/trimedlure trap and the female Medfly in a McPhail trap at the same residence along Ankerton Drive.

The three Medflies are near the previous Medfly finds in the area. Ten Medflies have been trapped so far this year in the Lake Forest/Mission Viejo area. The SIT treatment area is 33 square miles.

In response to the new finds, CDFA will initiate ground treatment within 200 meters of the find property using malathion bait.
The trap densities in the treatment boundary area are five Jackson/trimedlure and five McPhail traps per square mile.

CDFA trapper Jose Casas and Federal ID Sorter Margarita Razo are credited with finding the Medflies. CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determinations.
