Oriental Fruit Fly (OFF) Orange County Garden Grove CDFA trapper Israel Rodriguez found a male OFF on September 15, 1998. The fly was found in a Jackson/methyl eugenol trap placed in a lemon tree along La Grand Avenue. This find is within a mile of an earlier OFF find in Anaheim on August 26, 1998 (PD50-98). In response to these finds, CDFA will initiate OFF male annihilation in the area beginning September 17, 1998. The treatment boundary will cover a 14-square-mile area around the finds. The trap density in the area was five Jackson/methyl eugenol and five McPhail traps per square mile. In response, CDFA will raise the Jackson/methyl eugenol and McPhail trap densities to 25 traps per square mile in the core square mile around the find. CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
