Oriental Fruit Fly (OFF) Los Angeles County Alhambra Two male OFF were found by Los Angeles County trapper Raul Garcia along South 2nd Street in Alhambra. Raul found the flies while inspecting a Jackson/methyl eugenol trap in a peach tree on September 15, 1998. The trap density in the area was five Jackson/methyl eugenol and five McPhail traps per square mile. In response, CDFA will raise the Jackson/methyl eugenol and McPhail trap densities to 25 traps per square mile in the core square mile around the find. CDFA will also initiate OFF male annihilation in a nine square mile area around the finds. Treatment is scheduled to begin on September 16, 1998. CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
