Mexican Fruit Fly (MxFF) San Diego County El Cajon A male Mexican fruit fly was found in El Cajon on September 8, 1998. The fly was found in a McPhail trap placed in a sapote tree along Carob Tree Lane. This latest find is within the SIT eradication zone, on a property where Mexican fruit flies were trapped earlier this year. Since July 20, 1998, thirteen Mexican fruit flies have been trapped in the El Cajon area (PD18-98; PD25-98; PD29-98; PD35-98; PD47-98). The McPhail trap density is 5 traps per square mile within the core square mile and in the surrounding area. CDFA trapper Boonlam Abbott and CDFA ID Sorter Carolina Rodriguez are credited with finding the fly. CDFA Insect Biosystematists Kevin Hoffman and Eric Fisher made the determination.
