While inspecting Jackson/methyl eugenol traps on September 3, 1998, Los Angeles County Department of Agriculture trapper Ignacio Velazquez found a male OFF. The trap was placed in a guava tree at a residence along Whitmore Street.

The trap density in the area was five Jackson/methyl eugenol and five McPhail traps per square mile. In response, CDFA will increase the trap density to 25 Jackson/methyl eugenol and 25 McPhail traps per square mile in the core square mile around the find.

CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
