Japanese Beetle (JB) Alameda County Oakland On August 6, 1998, Alameda County trapper Carmen Franke found one dead female JB while inspecting JB traps at Oakland International Airport. The JB was found along Sally Ride Way, on the opposite side of the Federal Express building where another JB was found last month (PD22-98). The Japanese Beetle trap density in the area is 50 traps per square mile. In response to the previous find, Alameda County Department of Agriculture added four more JB traps in the area around the Federal Express building. Due to the density of high risk traps already in place, no additional traps will be placed at this time. CDFA Insect Biosystematist Terry Seeno made the determination.
