Japanese Beetle (JB) Alameda County Oakland CDFA inspector Paul Grazzini found one dead male JB on July 22 at Oakland International Airport. The JB was found on board UPS Aircraft originating in Louisville, KY. On July 30, CDFA inspector Andrew Mason found one dead female JB at the same airport, on board Emery Airlines aircraft originating in Indianapolis, IN. San Bernardino County Ontario CDFA Associate Entomologist Eugene Drake found one live male JB on July 21. The JB was found at Ontario International Airport on Federal Express aircraft originating in Memphis, TN. The next day, Drake found another JB, this one dead (sex unable to be determined). The JB was once again found on Federal Express aircraft originating in Memphis. On July 28, CDFA inspectors Ralph Oswald and Jim Lawson discovered a dead female JB at the same airport. This JB was found aboard UPS aircraft originating in Columbia, SC. Santa Clara County Moffett Field CDFA inspector Lydia Fox discovered one dead female JB on July 30, while inspecting airforce planes at Moffett Field near Mountain View in Santa Clara County. The JB was found on board a C130 airforce aircraft coming in from Andrews AFB. San Jose One dead female JB was found on August 3 on board Federal Express aircraft originating in Oakland. CDFA inspector Lydia Fox is credited with finding the JB at San Jose International Airport. CDFA Insect Biosystematist Fred G. Andrews made the determinations.
