Oriental Fruit Fly (OFF)
Santa Clara County
San Jose
On July 27, CDFA trapper Jim Crawford found one male OFF in
a McPhail trap on Renfield Way. The trap was placed in a peach
tree.
This latest OFF find is within a mile of the two previous
OFF finds (PD24-98 and PD28-98). In response to these earlier
finds, CDFA initiated OFF male annihilation in an eight square
mile area.
The trap density was 25 Jackson/methyl euguenol and 25 McPhail
traps per sqaure mile in the core, and 5 Jackson/methyl euguenol
and 5 McPhail traps per square mile in the surrounding eight
square mile area. Since this new find is within the established
treatment boundary, CDFA will not place any additional traps
in the area at this time.
CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
