Oriental Fruit Fly (OFF) Santa Clara County San Jose While servicing traps on July 22 near a recent OFF find in San Jose (PD24-98), CDFA trapper Jim Crawford found one male OFF in a Jackson/methyl eugenol trap along Loch Ness Way. The trap was placed in an apricot tree and is approximately 3/4 mile from the earlier find. The trap density was 5 Jackson/methyl eugenol traps per square mile. In response, CDFA has raised the Jackson/methyl eugenol and McPhail trap densities to 25 traps per square mile in the core square mile. In response to both finds, CDFA will initiate OFF male annihilation in an eight square mile area around both finds. Treatment is scheduled to begin July 25, 1998. CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
