Bactrocera latifrons Los Angeles County South Gate One sexually mature male Bactrocera latifrons was found by Los Angeles County trapper Jesus Garcia on July 21 in an OFF Jackson/methyl eugenol trap along Burke Avenue. The trap was placed in an ornamental shade tree. Due to the Anastrepha Striata find earlier this year, the trap density in the area was five Jackson/methyl eugenol traps per square mile and 40 McPhail traps per square mile. In response to this new find, CDFA will deploy Jackson traps
baited with the newly developed latilure, specifically for B.
latifrons. The trap densities will be 100 traps per square mile
in the core square mile and 50 traps per square mile in the surrounding
eight square miles. CDFA Insect Biosystematist Kevin Hoffman made the determination.
